Iceberg-tour


















Day 1: Upon arrival to Narsarsuaq Internation Airport, report your arrival at the Blue Ice Explorers reception in the airport. Blue Ice will make sure of your tranport to the harbour and sail you to the village Qassiarsuk where a team-member of Riding Greenland will welcome you. You luggage will be driven to Riding Greenland Hostel and you will be shown direction to the hostel, the harbour is close to the hostel. A team-member of Riding Greenland will show you to your room upon arrival to the hostel and you will be informed what time dinner will be served.


Day 2: Breakfast in the dining-room and when finished everyone will go outside and meet the horses. After an introduction of the horses the guides will match guest and horse. The ride will be short and in a slow pace, this time is mainly to insure that everybody is comfortable with their horse. The entire intro-day will take about 3 hours. Lunch will be served in the dining-room and the rest of the day the guests are free. Dinner will be served between 18:00 and 19:00.


Day 3: Breakfast in the dining-room and when everyone makes a lunchpack for the ride. When everybody is finished we all go to the horses and ride about 17km. During the day we will stop for lunch in the mountains. We will ride trough a farm called Qorlortup Itinnera and there after we will arrive to a another farm called Tasiusaq. We will leave the horses in the mountains and drive back to the hostel with buggies. Dinner will be served between 18:00 and 19:00.


Day 4: Same breakfast-procedure and everybody makes lunchpack, and then we go to the horses. We will ride on a beach and have lunch overviewing the glacier. We will ride back to the farm Tasiusaq and the entire ride of the day will be about 22km. We will leave the horses in the mountain and drive back to the hostel with buggies. Dinner will be served between 18:00 and 19:00.


Day 5: Breakfast in the morning and we drive the buggies back to the horses. We ride from farm Tasiusaq to the village Qassiarsuk, the ride is about 10km. At arrival to the village Qassiarsuk we go for lunch in the hostel. After the lunch the greenlandic national dress will be shown to the guests in the dining room. Dinner will be served between 18:00 and 19:00.


Day 6: Breakfast in the morning and when everybody is ready we take a buggy tour to the mountains and drive back again, the entire tour will take about 3 hours. After the buggy tour we will have lunch in the hostel and after lunch we go out to norse-ruins for a guided-tour about the vikings. Dinner will be served between 18:00 and 19:00.


Day 7: Breakfast in the morning and when everybody is ready we go to the horses and ride to the owners farm Inneruulalik for lunch. During the lunch we will tell you about the life as a sheep farmer in South Greenland. After lunch we go back to the horses and ride back to the village Qassiarsuk. The entire ride is about 14km. Dinner will be served between 18:00 and 19:00.


Day 8:Breakfast in the morning and guests will walk to the harbour. The lugage will be driven by a team member to the harbour. At arrival to the harbour in Narsarsuaq you will be driven to the airport. You can check your lugage in at arrival, and go to the nearby museum and two cafées before your departure.

The Iceberg-tour will take you through the sheepfarming areas in South Greenland. You will see many norse-ruins and inuit-ruins on your way during the rides. All horses are icelandic horses and are well-trained horses who are sure-footed in the difficult terrain. The main topic to show the guests is the glaciers and the icebergs in sea.


The Iceberg-tour is an 8-days tour with 5-days of riding. All accommodation, meals, activities and transport for the 8 days are included in the price. Flight to/from Narsarsuaq is not included in the price.

The tour includes a buggy tour, storytelling of living a life as a sheepfarmer in the arctic, a showing of the greenlandic national costume and an hour of a guided tour by a certified site-guide by the reconstructions of two norse-ruins. You also get your own private room with a single bed.

Farm to farm-tour

The farm to farm-tour will take you through the sheepfarming areas in South Greenland. You will see many norse-ruins and inuit-ruins on your way during the rides. The main topic is to show the guests is the landscape, icebergs and daily life and hospitality on different farms. The farm to farm-tour is an 8-days tour with 6-days of riding. All accommodation, meals, activities and transport for the 8 days are included in the price. Flight to/from Narsarsuaq is not included in the price. The tour includes storytelling of living a life as a sheepfarmer in the arctic, a showing of the greenlandic national costume and an hour of a guided tour by a certified site-guide by the reconstructions of two norse-ruins. You will share a room with 1 or two other riding guests.

When finished everyone will go outside and meet the horses. After an introduction of the horses the guides will match guest and horse. The ride will be app 12 - 15 km before we arrive at our next destination, the farm of Qinngua. Dinner will be served between 18:00 and 19:00.

Day 3: Breakfast and everyone makes a lunchpack for the ride. When everybody is finished we all go to the horses and ride about 20km. During the day we will stop for lunch in the mountains. We will ride close a farm called Qorlortup Itinnera and there after we will arrive to our next destination, a farm called Tasiusaq. Dinner will be served between 18:00 and 19:00.

Day 5: Breakfast in the morning and preparation of lunch pack. We ride from farm Tasiusaq to Sillisit farm, the ride is about 20km. Dinner will be servedbetween 18:00 and 19:00.

Day 6: Breakfast in the morning and preparation of lunch pack. Today we go for a dayride around the farm Sillisit. We will ride towards Naajat mountain to get a view over the fjord and icebergs at Kangerlua. App 20km. We will be back at Sillisit farm late afternoon. Dinner will be servedbetween 18:00 and 19:00.

Day 7: Breakfast in the morning and preparation of lunch pack. Today we ride back to Qassiarsuk and we will stay at the farm where we stayed the first night. App 20 km. Dinner will be servedbetween 18:00 and 19:00.

Day 8: Breakfast in the morning and guests will walk to the harbour. The lugage will be driven by a team member to the harbour. At arrival to the harbour in Narsarsuaq you will be driven to the airport. You can check your lugage in at arrival, and go to the nearby museum and two cafées before your departure.

To make a reservation, you send us an e-mail and you will receive an invoice that you pay through banktransfer. 


17.500DKK per person.


It is obligatory to wear a ridinghelmet during the riding, you can bring your own or borrow one from Riding Greenland.

Bring rainwear aswell. 


Riding skills of level 3 and 4 is required to participate in the tours.

The leveles of riding experience is explained here:

1. Beginner. Has never sat on a horse or had very limited riding. Cannot rise to the trot or is insecure in canter.

2. Novice. In control of a well-behaved horse at walk, trot and canter.

3. Intermediate plus. Confident and in control on a forward going horse at a steady canter in the open or uneven ground in a group situation. Has ridden for a number of years.

4. Experienced. A frequent and regular rider. Very fit and in control on a forward going horse at all paces in the open over rough and variable ground.


If cancellation is received later than 6 weeks prior to departure, 25% of the tour price is charged. If cancellation is received later than 3 weeks prior to departure, 50% of the tour price is charged. If cancellation is received later than 48 hours prior to departure, the full tour price will be charged. 

We reserve the right to alter routes, itineraries or timetables without prior notice, should the necessity arise. No liability is accepted of flights or other services, injury, sickness, accident, strikes, damage, negligence, weather, wars or other causes outside of our control. All such losses and expenses are the personal liability of the traveler. The estimated duration of tours as indiciated by km or timing can change according to road or weather conditions.

- it is oblidged to wear a riding helmet during all rides, guest can bring own helmet or borrow from us

- during rides only the guides wear a backpack to carry the guests lunchpacks and water-bottles

- all guests must participate in the riding tour by their own free will and they are obliged to inform the tour guide of any condition that might affect their ability to participate in the tour

- all guests are obliged to listen to and acknowledge the safety instructions





What to bring

- Helmet

GOOD TO KNOW


Qassiarsuk is a small village with about 40 citizents, there is a small local grocery store called Pilersuisoq that is open from 10:00-15:00. There is also a cafe called Cafe Thorhildur with souvenirs, coffee, tea, sandwhich and softice. The opening hours of the cafe is usually between 09:30-19:00.

Accommodation at the Iceberg-tour


During the Iceberg-tour you will have your own room with a single bed. During the entire tour you will stay at the Riding Greenland Hostel. There is free Wi-fi and free use of the washing-machine. 

We do not serve food for vegans or vegetarians during the tour.

Accommodation at the farm to farm-tour


During the farm to farm-tour you will stay at the hostels of the farms, all rooms are shared rooms with bunkbeds. For this tour you will bring your own sleepingbag.
